كشفت وسائل إعلام غربية أن الولايات المتحدة هددت سياسيين عراقيين كباراً بفرض عقوبات تستهدف الدولة في حالة ضم فصائل مدعومة من الخارج في الحكومة القادمة.

وأفادت المصادر بأن من بين العقوبات احتمال استهداف عائدات النفط التي تحصل عليها الدولة العراقية عبر بنك الاحتياطي الاتحادي في نيويورك.

وقال مسؤولون عراقيون: إن القائم بالأعمال الأمريكي في بغداد جوشوا هاريس وجّه هذا التحذير مراراً خلال الشهرين الماضيين في أحاديثه مع مسؤولين عراقيين وقادة نافذين، من بينهم بعض رؤساء الفصائل المرتبطة بإيران، عبر وسطاء.

يذكر أن ترمب، اتخذ منذ عودته للمنصب قبل نحو عام، إجراءات لإضعاف الحكومة الإيرانية عبر وسائل عدة كان من بينها العراق المجاور.

وأفاد مسؤولون أمريكيون ‍وعراقيون إن إيران ‍تعتبر العراق مهماً في الحفاظ ⁠على اقتصادها صامداً في وجه العقوبات ‌.

وسعت الإدارات الأمريكية المتعاقبة إلى وقف هذا التدفق الدولاري عبر البنوك العراقية، ففرضت عقوبات على أكثر من 12 بنكاً عراقياً خلال ⁠السنوات الماضية في محاولة لتحقيق ذلك، لكنها لم تقلص قط تدفقات الدولار من بنك الاحتياطي الاتحادي في ‌نيويورك إلى البنك المركزي العراقي.

من جانبه، أكد متحدث باسم وزارة الخارجية الأمريكية، أن الولايات المتحدة تدعم سيادة العراق، وسيادة كل دول المنطقة، وهذا لا يترك أي دور للجماعات المسلحة، التي تسعى لتحقيق مصالح خبيثة وتثير الفتنة الطائفية وتنشر الإرهاب ‍في جميع أنحاء المنطقة، حسب تعبيره.

Western media has revealed that the United States has threatened senior Iraqi politicians with sanctions targeting the state in the event of including foreign-backed factions in the upcoming government.

Sources reported that among the sanctions is the possibility of targeting the oil revenues that the Iraqi state receives through the Federal Reserve Bank in New York.

Iraqi officials stated that the U.S. chargé d'affaires in Baghdad, Joshua Harris, has issued this warning repeatedly over the past two months in his talks with Iraqi officials and influential leaders, including some heads of factions linked to Iran, through intermediaries.

It is noted that Trump has taken measures to weaken the Iranian government through various means, including the neighboring Iraq, since returning to office about a year ago.

U.S. and Iraqi officials reported that Iran considers Iraq important in sustaining its economy against sanctions.

Subsequent U.S. administrations have sought to stop this dollar flow through Iraqi banks, imposing sanctions on more than 12 Iraqi banks over the past years in an attempt to achieve that, but they have never reduced the dollar flows from the Federal Reserve Bank in New York to the Central Bank of Iraq.

For his part, a spokesperson for the U.S. State Department confirmed that the United States supports the sovereignty of Iraq and the sovereignty of all countries in the region, which leaves no role for armed groups that seek to achieve malicious interests, incite sectarian strife, and spread terrorism throughout the region, as he expressed.
