قبيل توجهه إلى دافوس في سويسرا للمشاركة في المنتدى الاقتصادي العالمي، جدد الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب التأكيد على أهمية جزيرة غرينلاند بالنسبة للولايات المتحدة.

وقال في تصريحات للصحفيين، اليوم (الثلاثاء)، «سأتحدث عن غرينلاند مع عدد من القادة في دافوس». وشدد على أن الجزيرة القطبية التابعة للدنمارك «مهمة جداً لأمريكا»، مؤكدا أن «لا أحد يستطيع حماية غرينلاند». ولفت إلى أن القادة الأوروبيين لن «يتصدّوا بشدة» لمحاولته شراء الجزيرة القطبية.

وردا على رفض الرئيس الفرنسي إيمانويل ماكرون دعوته للمشاركة في مجلس سلام غزة، قال ترمب:«لا أحد يهتم به لأنه سيغادر منصبه قريباً».

وكان مصدر مقرب من الرئاسة الفرنسية أكد أمس الإثنين، أن باريس لا تنوي الانضمام حالياً إليه. واعتبر المصدر أن هذا المجلس «يتجاوز إطار غزة ويطرح أسئلة حول قضايا رئيسية خصوصاً لناحية احترام مبادئ وتركيبة الأمم المتحدة التي لا يمكن المسّ بها في أي حال من الأحوال».

وكشف الرئيس الأمريكي أنه سيفرض رسوما جمركية بنسبة 200% على النبيذ والشمبانيا الفرنسية، إذا رفض ماكرون مجلس السلام.

وأعلن ترمب أنه وجه دعوة إلى الرئيس الروسي فلاديمير بوتين للمشاركة في هذا المجلس، الذي تتخوف العديد من الدول الغربية من أن تتوسع صلاحياته بشكل ينافس فيها الأمم المتحدة أو مجلس الأمن الدولي.

وكان وزير الدفاع الدنماركي ترولز لوند بولسن، دعا حلف شمال الأطلسي (ناتو) إلى القيام بالمزيد فيما يتعلق بالقطب الشمالي، في الوقت الذي يسعى فيه الرئيس ترمب للاستحواذ على غرينلاند، بدعوى أن سيطرته على الجزيرة ضرورية للاحتياجات الأمنية للولايات المتحدة.

ويعارض حلفاء واشنطن الأوروبيون في الناتو، ومن بينهم الدنمارك، هذا الأمر بشدة.

وتعد غرينلاند التي تتمتع بحكم ذاتي واسع جزءا من أراضي الدنمارك. ولطالما أكدت الجزيرة، التي يبلغ عدد سكانها أقل بقليل من 57 ألف نسمة، أنها لا ترغب في أن تصبح جزءا من الولايات المتحدة.

Before heading to Davos, Switzerland, to participate in the World Economic Forum, U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated the importance of Greenland to the United States.

He stated in remarks to reporters today (Tuesday), "I will talk about Greenland with a number of leaders in Davos." He emphasized that the Danish Arctic island is "very important to America," asserting that "no one can protect Greenland." He pointed out that European leaders would not "strongly oppose" his attempt to buy the Arctic island.

In response to French President Emmanuel Macron's rejection of his invitation to participate in the Gaza Peace Council, Trump said, "No one cares about him because he will be leaving office soon."

A source close to the French presidency confirmed yesterday (Monday) that Paris does not intend to join him at this time. The source considered that this council "exceeds the framework of Gaza and raises questions about key issues, especially regarding the respect for the principles and structure of the United Nations, which cannot be undermined in any case."

U.S. President Trump revealed that he would impose a 200% tariff on French wine and champagne if Macron rejects the Peace Council.

Trump announced that he has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to participate in this council, which many Western countries fear could expand its powers in a way that competes with the United Nations or the United Nations Security Council.

Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen called on NATO to do more regarding the Arctic, at a time when President Trump is seeking to acquire Greenland, claiming that U.S. control of the island is necessary for national security needs.

Washington's European allies in NATO, including Denmark, strongly oppose this matter.

Greenland, which enjoys extensive self-governance, is part of Danish territory. The island, which has a population of just under 57,000, has long asserted that it does not wish to become part of the United States.
