أكد الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب أن الولايات المتحدة وحلف شمال الأطلسي (الناتو) يتجهان نحو التوصل إلى اتفاق بشأن مستقبل جزيرة غرينلاند، بما يحقق مصالح جميع الأطراف المعنية.
وقال ترمب، خلال مؤتمر صحفي عقده أمس (الثلاثاء)، إن واشنطن لديها «اجتماعات عديدة مقررة بشأن غرينلاند» على هامش المؤتمر السنوي للمنتدى الاقتصادي العالمي في سويسرا، في إشارة إلى حراك دبلوماسي مكثف حول الملف.
وأوضح الرئيس الأمريكي أنه لا يعتقد أن الدول الأوروبية ستتخلى عن التزاماتها الاستثمارية تجاه الولايات المتحدة، حتى في حال اتخاذه خطوات تتعلق بضم الجزيرة، مؤكداً أن العلاقات عبر الأطلسي ستظل قائمة على المصالح المشتركة.
وجاءت تصريحات ترمب ضمن خطاب مطوّل ألقاه في البيت الأبيض واستمر ساعة و40 دقيقة، تناول فيه عدداً من القضايا السياسية والاقتصادية الدولية.
وعند سؤاله عن مدى استعداده للمضي قدماً في ضم غرينلاند، رد ترمب قائلاً: «ستعرفون ذلك بأنفسكم»، دون تقديم تفاصيل إضافية. وتزامنت هذه التصريحات مع يوم هيمنت فيه السياسة الخارجية الأمريكية على نقاشات المنتدى الاقتصادي العالمي في دافوس، حيث اتهم الرئيس الفرنسي إيمانويل ماكرون الولايات المتحدة بمحاولة إضعاف أوروبا وإخضاعها، فيما توعدت رئيسة المفوضية الأوروبية أورسولا فون دير لاين برد حازم على تهديدات ترمب بفرض تعريفات جمركية. وفي رده على سؤال أحد الصحفيين حول إعلان سكان غرينلاند عدم رغبتهم في الانضمام إلى الولايات المتحدة، قال ترمب إنه واثق من أن سكان الجزيرة «سيكونون سعداء بذلك» عندما يتحدث إليهم بشكل مباشر.
U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that the United States and NATO are moving towards reaching an agreement regarding the future of Greenland, which serves the interests of all parties involved.
Trump stated during a press conference held yesterday (Tuesday) that Washington has "numerous meetings scheduled regarding Greenland" on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, indicating an intense diplomatic effort surrounding the issue.
The U.S. president clarified that he does not believe European countries will abandon their investment commitments to the United States, even if he takes steps regarding the annexation of the island, emphasizing that transatlantic relations will remain based on mutual interests.
Trump's remarks came during a lengthy speech he delivered at the White House that lasted an hour and 40 minutes, in which he addressed several international political and economic issues.
When asked about his readiness to move forward with the annexation of Greenland, Trump replied, "You will know that for yourselves," without providing additional details. These statements coincided with a day when U.S. foreign policy dominated discussions at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where French President Emmanuel Macron accused the United States of attempting to weaken and subjugate Europe, while European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen promised a firm response to Trump's threats of imposing tariffs. In response to a question from a journalist regarding the announcement by Greenland's residents of their unwillingness to join the United States, Trump said he is confident that the island's residents "will be happy about it" when he speaks to them directly.
